It is usually considered the finest collection of Looney Tunes VHS cassettes ever assembled, one that featured only the cream of the crop (of the Warner Bros.-owned library) without any filler. It was the first all-encompassing line of home videos for the shorts, one in which every major character and three essential behind-the-scenes men were spotlighted in their own compilations. Nothing had ever been attempted before on this grand of a scale, nor would any subsequent retail collection come close to its thoroughness.
Over the course of two years, twelve volumes were released in the Golden Jubilee: 24 Karat Collection series containing ninety-one unique cartoons with very little overlap. Though barely a tenth of the entire Looney Tunes output, the series nevertheless became the acorn from which most fans' personal collections had grown.
With the advent of the DVD format, fans have had to become multi-format collectors in order to obtain every short, with the Golden Collection volumes and later releases covering much of the same ground as the Golden Jubilee tapes. This guide will detail which cartoons have since been released on the DVD format and where so that collectors know which Golden Jubilee videos they can pack away, store, or dispose of outright.
